Vintage Tibor Kalman / M&Co. Restaurant Florent matchbooks circa 1980s.
A diner for the debonair and the dispossessed, Restaurant Florent opened in what was then the unheard of Meat Packing District. The restaurants marketing etc was enhanced by a minimal but memorable graphic identity by M&Co. a burgenioning graphic design company at the time. The first pieces of advertising were only in Paper Magazine. The ads designed with no address or telephone number, if you didn't know somebody who knew, you were out of it. Restaurant Florent's mysterious address was revealed only to smokers via the matchbooks once matches were pulled to reveal the address.
Minimalism at its wildy influential best. They were manufactured inside out with the card stock revealed and glossy bright color on the interior.Insanely scarce and a NYC / graphic design icon and legend. All are unstruck in almost new condition with some age appropriate shelf wear, and some fading as pictured.
