What is char oud and how is it made?

Char oud is flat pieces within the thickness around 1.0 mm to 1.2 mm. Actually, it is not flat at all, it has a curving shape.

How do people make it?

We use hot iron bars to pierce the tree, causing it to release resin to heal itself. Depending on the tree's size, 4 to 6 bars are used. This process, called the created resin process, results in some trees producing good resin, while others may not produce any and collapse.

Where is the char oud part on trees?

The iron bar will leave a hole in the tree, and around the hole, this will be the Char oud part.

How many quality grades are there?

In my sorting system, I classify into three grades: Super, King Super, and King Triple Super.

Super grade is standard quality, characterized by light yellow to medium brown wood color with some black spots. When burned or heated, oil bubbles appear, releasing a soft earthy scent with a nice woodiness and a hint of sweetness.

King Super grade is high quality, featuring black scratches and dark brown wood color. When burned or heated, plenty of oil bubbles appear, releasing a strong woodiness and clear sweetness.

King Triple grade is premium quality, with black color covering almost 95% of the pieces. When burned or heated, plenty of oil bubbles appear, releasing a strong and clear sweetness.
