Antique French Silver Chocolate Pot

I see that it more closely resembles Netherlandish silver of this period, which makes sense due to Caen’s proximity to the lowlands.

Antique French Silver Chocolate Pot 7.5” H

Fascinating early chocolate pot with heavy repousse work, mark for Caen c. 1720 with Paris charge mark c. 1726-32. I see that it more closely resembles Netherlandish silver of this period, which makes sense due to Caen’s proximity to the lowlands.

Just a lovely, interesting piece of old silver the likes of which we don’t see in America…ever. Even the Met only has a few items of this age from France.

This item is from a very old family among whose notable ancestors was the wealthiest man in America during the Revolutionary war period (Robert Morris).

My consignor is open to offers, so please ask (to a certain point - this is worth a bit as silver but has worth above that as very old metalwork). There are no marks on the lid.

PLEASE NOTE needs new pin to attach lid, absent insulators on handle.
