Why use these gears?

These gears are tough, long lasting and quite. The four printed gears in the above video have been running for 5 years now without any issues.

What about the discussion about them not being able to take the heat in your shop?

These gears are printed on a 60c degree (140f) build plate and the are completely solid at that temperature.
