AUSTRALIA QEII. RARE! 1963/65 Navigators full set to £2 with white papers. Mint.
The £1 cream paper appears to show a partial offset on the reverse?
Bright, fresh and attractive with super clean, flat and smooth gum. This set is notorious for being off centre as well...but these are pretty good!
The Navigators stamps were all intially printed on a cream coloured watermarked paper.
"In 1964, a new type of watermarked paper was introduced. This was whiter than the original stock, which by comparison has a cream appearance." (Brusden White. Australian Commonwealth Specialist's Catalogue - ACSC)
Except for the 4/-, this set was issued and used for fewer than 2 years - highly unusual for a high value set anywhere. The decimal set replaced them on 14th February 1966.
4/- issued Oct 1963.
10/- cream paper issued Feb 1964.
£1 cream paper issued Feb 1964.
7/6 issued Aug 1964.
£2 issued Aug 1964.
5/- issued Nov 1964.
£1 white paper issued Nov 1964
10/- white paper issued Jan 1965
SG 355/360. ACSC 404/409.
There are some small hinge remnants on the reverse, but the 5/- actually looks like it is unmounted.
Overall a super set with and priced as if all are fine mint.
No thins, tears or toning.
