Offered is a lovely and scarce William III or Queen Anne sterling silver teaspoon of Britannia standard, made in London between 1697 and 1715 (date letter rubbed but probably decipherable).  The maker's mark is ?A surmounted by a crown and with a pellet or mullet beneath.  The closest match in Grimwade seems to be George Garthorne, but it is possible there are other candidate silversmiths.  No engraving or any obvious signs of erasure.  This piece measures about 4 3/4 inches or 12 cm in length, and weighs about 12 grams.  Condition is very good with some minor wear from normal use; there are no splits or repairs.  All in all a nice example of this early form!
