LEHNER’S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF U.S. MARKS ON POTTERY, PORCELAIN & CLAY by Lois Lehner, Collector Books, KY, 1988.
This compendium of American manufactories of pottery and porcelain is arranged in alphabetical order, in true encyclopedia style. A nice feature is that marks are shown in conjunction with entries about each company so that the book’s user does not have to flip back and forth among entries and appendices. Contents by chapter include: an alphabetical listing of factories (more than 500 pages are devoted to this core section), definition pertaining to the book, and companies listed by location. Several brief sections deal with commercial outlets for various wares, decoration and decorators, folk potters, studio potters and sculptors, railroad letters and symbols, Syracuse Nation Winners, Electrical porcelain insulator markings. A bibliography and highly useful master index round out this Bible-thick volume, an essential reference work for collectors, dealers and curators of American-made pottery, earthenware and porcelain.
8.75” x 11.25” color-imprinted hardback in very good condition. 634 pages.
