This is an original Japanese wooden netsuke, carved with a dynamic Dragon and Tiger (Ryūko) motif and signed Yamaguchi (山口). Netsuke were traditionally used as toggles for sagemono (hanging objects) and are highly regarded today as miniature sculptural works combining symbolism, craftsmanship, and practical design.

The dragon and tiger pairing is a powerful and classical motif in East Asian art, representing the balance of opposing forces—heaven and earth, strength and wisdom, movement and stillness. The composition conveys tension and harmony within a compact form, a quality especially prized in netsuke carving.
