T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. The mark used on this tray is the manufacturer's underglaze mark referenced in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #7.
DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has colors that are bright and beautiful and is truly one of the nicest trays we have seen. This is a T&V hand decorated tray on a blank of white fine china with a smooth rim. There pink rose sprays are scattered across the tray. The rim is trimmed in gold with a wide band of gold scrollwork adjacent to the rim. On the back, there is a hand written note giving the owner's name in 1973. See photo #13.
CONDITION: While this tray is classified as used, it is in superb condition. We can find no chips, cracks, hairlines, nicks, rubbings or repairs. There is minor age appropriate wear to the gold on the rim. There's no other wear to the gold or the color. The lack of scratches attests to the high quality of the fine china. The decorative tray is beautiful.
DIMENSIONS: The round tray has a diameter of 15 3/4" with a height of 15/16".
HISTORY/MARKS: Begun in the 1850's, Vogt & Dose became Tressemann & Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. From 1907-1919, the company operated as Porcelain Gustave Vogt under the direction of Gustave Vogt, John Vogt's son, and continued to use the T&V mark. T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. The mark used on this tray is the manufacturer's underglaze mark referenced in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #7. This mark was used from 1892-1907. There is also the retailer's mark #7 for Marshall Fields Dept. store in Chicago, IL that was used 1900-1925 as cited by the website marks4ceramics. This makes the circa for this beautiful tray 1900-1907.
