PIRATE GLASS:

From the Golden Age of Piracy, a single type of glass stands apart from all sea glass; Black sea glass or Pirate Glass. The type of glass bottles used in the sea trade contained iron and other strengtheners that caused the glass to change color over the years of being in the sea. Because of this, Pirate Glass is dated to that time period definitively. Many of these bottles began their lives from wrecked ships due to storms and piracy. When you touch Pirate Glass, you reach further back in time than any other sea glass.

The most common myth surrounding Pirate Glass relates to its color. While many believe Pirate Glass to be solid black, it is actually an intense shade of various colors so dark that it often appears black — especially once frosted by the sea.  But not all pirate glass is black. Some actually retain its original color, with a cloudy to gray frost, making it appear dirty or oily. These colors can range from deep greens to browns and, in rare cases, even reds or blues. It’s these dark, rich tones that create the illusion of black. Think of it like a pint of Guinness, which many assume is black but is actually a deep amber color which can only be seen under a certain light – just like pirate glass.

All of my seaglass was hand collected by me, and i can tell you not only the city and country  of origin, but even the beach it was collected on.  You can't get this natural beauty by buying cheap man-made seaglass, which is mostly sold here on eBay.  Mother Nature is unbeatable!  There are a lot of unscrupulous sellers on EBay, so please beware and be careful! ESPECIALLY if you're looking at glass that they say they dived for or collected all over the country.  I'd say pretty close to 90% of the seaglass advertised on eBay as genuine, is FAKE.  A good rule of thumb on eBay is  if their username sounds like a business name, you are in all probability looking at fake seaglass.  There's one person who runs about 4 (maybe more) different accounts of all acid washed glass that they call genuine, and each account is a business name for their username.  The only business with unlimited (or "too many pieces to count") seaglass is a business that manufactures their seaglass at home in a tumbler, or in a bowl of muriatic acid, so be careful if you're looking for real "genuine" seaglass. If you don't care if it's genuine, get yourself some muriatic acid or a rock tumbler and make your own.  Good luck hinting!
