A Rare Taishō Period Masterpiece
Solid Silver & Inlaid Mixed Metals Curved Cigarette Case

This exceptionally fine example of traditional Japanese silversmith's art dates from the 1920s.

A bronze partial patinated and engraved copper tree inlaid diagonally issues delicate branches with leaves, buds and flowers.  Decoration continues along the edge of the front to the rear corner.

The curved-to-fit-pocket case with protruding 6-barrel hinge opens with a push-tab.  Edges align precisely and the box closes with a secure snap.

The jewelry grade mirror-finished interior marvelously displays the full tree with multi-patinated colors.  A removable silver link band with concealed springs attaches to brackets.  Above the brackets the edge of the case is stamped "SILVER."  This designation was used before Japanese silver was marked either 950 (purity) or STERLING for western export.

Maintained in nearly pristine condition for a century.  I cleaned and sensitively polished the case to achieve a high luster.

Kindly review condition notes and study close-up views for detail.
