RICHARD MILHOUS NIXON
37th President of the U.S.
Individually and Sequentially Numbered Figurine
This listing is for a hand-painted, injection molded plastic figurine of President Richard M. Nixon, made to look like the 3 inch Marx Presidents figurines of the 1950s and '60s.
Tens of thousands of presidential figurines made by the Marx Toy Company were sold over the years. Thousands of these vintage collectors items have appeared on eBay as individual listings and in sets, with the most recent president being Richard Nixon, sculpted when he first ran for president in 1960 and issued in mass quantities in 1968 when he was elected. Because Marx was sold in 1972 (during Nixon's term of office), their figurine did not include his complete term dates on the back. Some of the Marx figurines say "37TH 1969- ." Others say "1913 - ." Many are completely blank. This figurine is meant to correct that omission.
Like the vintage Marx figurines, this one is about 3 inches tall (60mm),
machine cast in plastic, and painted with enamel paint. The name
"NIXON" appears on the front of the base. The back of the base says,
"37TH 1969-74." Unlike the Marx figurines, each of these figurines is individually and sequentially numbered on a sticker on the bottom of the base.
The
figurine is the brainchild of Marx collector Patric M. Verrone, who has
been producing figurines in the Marx style since 2003 (www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/03/06/a-comedy-writer-makes-trump-collectibles).
The original digital sculpt was created by Phil Ramirez of Ramirez
Studios, in conjunction with Pretty in Plastic Design Studio in North
Hollywood, California, and Design Masters in Toano, Virginia.
For sale separately are figurines of the U.S. presidents that Marx never made: Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. They are available individually and as a set of nine.
Also
available is a plastic display stand, designed in the manner of the
Styrofoam stand that accompanied the 1970 releases of the Marx sets. It
can hold up to 49 figurines. These stands are also individually and
sequentially numbered. A listing photo shows the entire set, from
George Washington to Joe Biden, displayed on the stand.
Also available by special order are figurines of presidential candidates, Supreme Court
justices, and other Famous Americans designed in the Marx tradition.
