The Universal Wetgate is a 3D printed item and specifically designed for use on all Moviestuff Mark I (lightpin & LED) and Mark II Retroscan units for the reduction of vertical scratches that are common on films. USE OF THIS ITEM REQUIRES A MARK I OR A MARK II, BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE A MARK I OR A MARK II OR ANY OF ITS PARTS. This wetgate is for use on the Mark I. It also works on the Mark II with a different adaptor (see my other listings for this wetgate with a Mark II adaptor, or adaptors for both the Mark I and Mark II). This unit works on 8mm, Super 8mm, 9.5mm, and 16mm films. Using the appropriate adaptors, this wetgate can be used on all Mark I and Mark II scanners. If you are using this wetgate on a Mark II, then an idler roller will be included that is necessary for proper film alignment prior to the wetgate. The film rollers roll easily, and are available from Amazon and easily replaceable. This wetgate can be used with 99% isopropanol.
How to use this wetgate: Prior to film transfer, wet the rollers and load the upper chamber with 99% isopropanol. Set the flow valve so that 99% isopropanol drips onto the rollers at a rate that is sufficient to keep the rollers wet. Excess liquid will collect in the lower reservoir and can be easily drained by opening the overflow screw.
