The V5 Optical Sensor is a combination of ambient light, color, proximity and gesture sensor.  Color information is available as RGB, hue and saturation or grayscale.  Color detection works best when the object is closer than 100mm.  The proximity sensor measures reflected light intensity, and as such, the values will change with ambient light and object reflectivity.  The gesture sensor can detect one of four possible gestures, an object (hand or otherwise) moving up, down, left or right over the sensor.  The Optical Sensor has a white LED to assist color detection in  low light conditions.

The V5 Distance Sensor measures distance to an object, approximate object size and approach speed.  The distance measurement range is 20mm to 2,000mm.   Below 200mm the accuracy is approximately +/‐15mm, above 200mm the accuracy is approximately 5%. The approximate object size is reported as small, medium or large, and is useful for determining if the target is a wall or a game object.  Approach speed measures the approach speed of the sensor and the object.

The V5 Distance Sensor uses a classroom safe Class 1 Laser, similar to those used on modern cell phones for head detection.  The laser allows the sensor to have a very narrow field of view, so detection is always directly in front of the sensor.

The Smart Motor (5.5W) is capable of producing half the power of the original V5 Smart Motor (11W). Perfect for low-RPM or lightweight applications such as indexers, arms, or some intakes.

Note: This motor operates at a set RPM, and is not compatible with V5 Smart Motor cartridges.
